Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-fabricated shells of dental porcelain bonded to the facial surface of teeth. They improve tooth color, shape, size, length, or minor alignment issues while preserving most of the natural tooth underneath.

The rule of conservative preparation

Veneers done well require minimal tooth reduction often less than a fraction of a millimeter. Veneers done poorly over-prepare the tooth, creating bulky, artificial-looking restorations that need replacement sooner and leave less natural tooth behind if they ever fail.

Dr. Yeo's rule: prepare the tooth as little as possible while still achieving the aesthetic goal. In some cases that means using no-prep or minimal-prep veneers. In others it means a small, targeted reduction. Never more than necessary

The smile design process

  1. Consultation and photography. High-resolution photos of your face, smile, and teeth.

  2. Digital smile design. A 3D simulation of your proposed veneer design, shown to you before anyone touches a tooth.

  3. Conservative preparation. Minimal tooth reduction under local anesthesia. Takes 1–2 hours depending on number of veneers.

  4. Temporaries. You wear the prototype for 2–3 weeks. This is your chance to adjust shape, length, or color before the final.

  5. Final veneers placed. Custom-crafted porcelain bonded precisely, polished to match your natural teeth.

  6. Follow-up. Check-in after 1 week and again at 3 months.

When veneers are the right answer

  • Color that won't respond to whitening (tetracycline stains, fluorosis, aging)

  • Shape issues — small, worn, or asymmetric teeth

  • Minor alignment — slightly rotated or crowded teeth that don't need orthodontics

  • Spacing and gaps that whitening and bonding can't fix

  • Chipped edges and minor fractures

  • Smile makeovers — as part of a comprehensive plan

When veneers might not be right

  • Major alignment issues — orthodontics first

  • Severe bruxism — night guards required, or alternative restorations

  • Active gum disease — periodontal treatment first

  • Teeth with significant decay or weakened structure — crowns may be more appropriate
